World Premiere of SPACESTAR,
a new concept in space utility and versatility,
plus an extensive GDI* engine line-up
at Mitsubishi Motors.

The Geneva Motor Show sees the World Premiere of the Mitsubishi SPACESTAR concept. On display will be prototype models of this car, to be launched in Europe towards the end of 1998.

This new concept from Mitsubishi has a semi-tall profile body which provides the ultimate in space efficiency within surprisingly compact external dimensions. Designed specifically for the European market, it will be Mitsubishi's second model to be produced at the joint venture NedCar factory in Holland. It will be available in Europe towards the end of the year with the same 1.8-litre GDI* engine currently featured in the Mitsubishi CARISMA, as well as with a 1.3-litre ECI-MULTI SOHC engine.

The Mitsubishi SPACESTAR is a practical choice for people looking for a spacious and versatile alternative to the traditional hatchback. Thanks to the GDI engine, it is easy and exciting to drive and has minimal impact on the environment.

Since its launch in 1995, the Mitsubishi CARISMA has achieved great sales success, having sold over 121,000 units in the European market as of February 1998. With the arrival of the SPACESTAR as a second European model, total production for Mitsubishi Motors at NedCar will reach an annual total of 140,000 units (90,000 units of CARISMAs, 50,000 units of SPACESTARs) in 1999.

Mitsubishi Motors plan to sell 330,000 vehicles in Europe by the year 2000.
