on Display However, in Japan, Mitsubishi has extended the GDI concept to encompass a whole range of engines for different applications. For the first time in Europe, the public will be able to see an extensive range of Mitsubishi GDI engines. There is a small 3-cylinder, 12-valve DOHC 660 cc for city cars. There are three 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engines, the 1,500 cc, the familiar 1,800 cc and one of 2,400 cc. In Japan, there are two 24-valve V6 engines, a 3,000 cc engine and the 3,500 cc engine fitted to the PAJERO in Japan. The V6 on display at the Geneva Motor Show is the 3000 cc version. Top of the range is an awesome 32-valve 4,500 cc V8. The GDI has proved to be a real success for Mitsubishi Motors, who had produced over 200,000 GDI engines for the global market by the end of February 1998. Mitsubishi Motors will continue to fit GDI engines in all their major models in Europe, making the GDI the mainstream of engines for Mitsubishi vehicles. |
