Sixth Meeting of Business Ethics Committee

Tokyo, September 21, 2004  — The Business Ethics Committee, an advisory body for the Mitsubishi Motors board of directors, held its sixth meeting today.

At today's meeting, the following three points were received from Mitsubishi Motors:

  1. The thoughts of the company concerning the release of new models
  2. Points concerning messages intended to rebuild trust in the company
  3. Review of the regulations regarding corporate ethics

In relation to these points, committee members made the following remarks:

Concerning the investment in new models

  • Because the anxiety from the decline in safety lead to distrust in the company, you must take efforts to ensure the safety of new models
  • New model cars should emphasize technology / design / reliability as features of the new Mitsubishi cars
  • When you conduct publicity for new model cars, you increase the motivation within the company and increase trust from outside the company

Concerning a message to rebuild trust in the company

  • Make trust recovery the center of your messages. Also, this message should be placed on the web site.
  • A message to recover trust is not a one-time only action and should be followed up. You should consider establishing a memorial day for staff members so that they do not forget the accidents
  • You must provide the utmost in service, in particular for the repair of recalled vehicles

Concerning the review of the regulations regarding corporate ethics

  • We understand the current state of implementation and their direction
  • You must pay attention to the opinions of the commissioners and thoroughly discuss the various issues.

The seventh meeting of the business ethics committee has been scheduled to be held on October 28th.
