Reorganization of Company Baseball Management

Date: May 30, 2002

  • Concentration of corporate-supported teams from 4 to 2
  • New streamlined structure with two teams representing Passenger Car and Truck & Bus Operations respectively to be effective from 2003 season onward

May 30, 2002, Tokyo - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced today the reorganization of its company baseball management. After having supported 4 different teams representing its major production sites in Okazaki, Kyoto, Mizushima and Kawasaki in the past, MMC will focus its support on only two teams from the 2003 season onward. Within this new structure, the "Okazaki" baseball team will represent the Passenger Car Operations while the "Fuso Kawasaki" team will play for the Truck & Bus Operations.

Both teams have enjoyed a long history of success and great achievement and are generally regarded to be among the leading company teams in the country. The new company baseball organization will allow to build on this legacy and even extend their strength into the future. At the same time, the new structure reflects the trend of bringing the company's various operations closer together and enforcing the overall MMC identity among employees in Japan.

With regard to the "Mizushima" and "Kyoto" teams, it is currently under consideration to transfer the status of both teams to that of independent clubs from next season.
