Tokyo, May 25, 2007
— Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for April 2007.
Total global production came in at 104,981 units, 8.2 percent up on April 2006. Production volume in Japan increased 5.4 percent year-on-year to 59,422 units, marking the seventh consecutive month of year-on-year growth. This was mainly driven by increased output of the new Outlander for the U.S., European and Chinese markets, of the new Pajero for the European market with demand further spurred by the addition of an automatic transmission model, and of the new Delica D:5 model for the Japanese market.
Vehicle sales in Japan totaled 13,484 units, a 10.5 percent decline year-on-year as higher registered vehicle sales failed to make up for a drop in mini-car sales. Registered vehicles sales stood at 5,014 units, 18.8 percent up on the same month last year. Mini-car sales declined to 8,470 units, 21.9 percent down year-on-year.
Overseas production volume totaled 45,559 units, 11.9 percent up over April last year. Production in Europe came in at 5,753 units or 10.5 percent down on last year's figure. Production in North American dropped to 5,187 units, 15.3% percent down on the level seen last year. In Asia production rose to 30,381 units, a 23.8 percent increase on April 2006 that reflected an increase in L200 pick-up truck exports from Thailand and production of the Colt Plus at CMC in Taiwan climbing to full-stream levels.
Total exports from Japan of 31,368 units were 40.5 percent up on April 2006, marking the sixth consecutive month of year-on-year increases. Exports to Europe increased to 8,390 units, a 17.3 percent rise over last year's figure that reflected continuing strong demand for new Pajero and new Outlander models. Exports to Asia rose to 2,760 units, a 56.4 percent increase over the same period last year as sales of the Lancer model in Singapore, and of the Grandis and Outlander models in China remained brisk. Exports to North America rose to 3,918 units, 79.7 percent up on the April 2006 level, on the back of strong sales of the new Outlander and New Lancer models.
