Tokyo, December 26, 2007
— Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for November 2007.
• Production: total and in Japan
Total global production came in at 126,851 units, an increase of 6.8 percent over November 2006 and marking the ninth consecutive monthly increase since March this year. Production volume in Japan increased 6.2 percent to 76,126 units, the 14th consecutive month of year-on-year growth and marking a new record for November since Mitsubishi Motors spun off its truck and bus operations in 2003. This growth was driven by a 36.7 percent increase in output (26,552 units) of the New Lancer for the Russian, North American, and Middle East and African markets and by a 60.4 percent increase in output (15,252 units) of the New Outlander for the European and Chinese markets.
• Sales in Japan
Vehicle sales in Japan in November totaled 18,938 units, a 11.0 percent decrease year-on-year. Passenger car (registrations and mini-car) sales of 13,264 units and commercial vehicle sales of 5,674 units were 15.7 percent down and 2.1 percent up respectively on the same month last year. Total registered vehicle sales were 17.5 percent up year-on-year driven mainly by the recently introduced Galant Fortis. Total mini-car sales were 22.1 percent down.
• Production overseas
Overseas production volume totaled 50,725 units, 7.8 percent up over November last year and marked the third consecutive monthly increase since September this year. In Asia production at 33,653 units was 21.7 percent up on November 2006, driven mainly by higher output at China Motor Co., Ltd. in Taiwan and at South East (Fujian) Motor Co., Ltd. in China. In Europe production came in at 6,618 units or 7.1 percent down on last year's figure. In North America production at 5,123 units was 39.8 percent down on last year.
• Export shipments from Japan
Total exports from Japan of 46,292 units were 7.0 percent up on November 2006, marking the 13th consecutive month of year-on-year increases and setting a new record for November since Mitsubishi Motors spun off its truck and bus operations in 2003. Exports to Asia of 4,497 units marked a substantial 124.1 percent increase over the same period last year thanks to firm sales of the New Outlander to China and to the introduction of the New Lancer in Singapore. Exports to North America of 3,983 units were 33.2 percent down on November 2006, this decline being a reflection of last year's sales surge seen with the introduction of the New Outlander and a result of a shortage of shipping space this year.
