Mitsubishi Motors announced today that the Special Meeting of the Board
of Directors had approved changes in the company's top management.
Current President and CEO Takashi Sonobe will become Chairman and Rolf
Eckrodt, now serving as Executive Vice President and COO Car Operations,
will become President and CEO. The changes will take effect after formal
authorization by the special Board of Directors Meeting after the Annual
Shareholders Meeting on June 25.
CEO Sonobe, who proposed the changes at the Board meeting today, said
that "Rolf Eckrodt is the right person at the right time to lead Mitsubishi
Motors successfully through the next years." CEO Sonobe declared that
he will remain "fully committed to support our turnaround as Chairman".
COO Eckrodt said, "Many achievements of our company's Turnaround so far
would not have been possible without Takashi Sonobe. I count on my partner
Sonobe to further support Mitsubishi Motors as Chairman."
Regarding his nomination as President and CEO, COO Eckrodt said, "I am
ready to take this responsibility and to fight for the success of the
whole company with all my experience and strength."
