Mitsubishi Motors to Unveil SPACE STAR, SPACE WAGON, PAJERO SPORT at 1998 Paris Motor Show

29 September 1998, Tokyo. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announces that it will be displaying a total of 22 exhibits at the 1998 Paris Motor Show, to be held at the Parc Exposition-Port de Versailles on the outskirts of Paris, Thursday 1 October through Sunday 11 October. The SPACE STAR, SPACE WAGON and PAJERO SPORT models due to be launched in European markets this autumn will be joined on the stands by the GDI engine and other engineering models, and the World Rally Championship LANCER EVOLUTION.

Company plans call for sales volume of 300,000 units in Europe this year, a 20 percent increase over the 257,000 units sold in 1997. The new SPACE STAR, SPACE WAGON (CHARIOT GRANDIS in Japan) and PAJERO SPORT (CHALLENGER) will join the fast-selling CARISMA in Mitsubishi's European model lineup this autumn.

SPACE STAR

This sub-compact family car is, after the CARISMA, the second Mitsubishi model developed spcially for the European market and is to be built at the company's European production unit, Netherlands Car B.V. It will be powered by the 1.8-liter GDI engine that currently powers the CARISMA and is attracting great interest for its ecologically compatibility. Incorporating maximum space utility and a multi-feature interior in a compact and functional body, SPACE STAR represents the ideal packaging for a family car.

SPACE WAGON

Known as the CHARIOT GRANDIS in Japan, the SPACE WAGON will be the first Mitsubishi model in Europe to be powered by the company's exciting new 2.4-liter GDI engine. Sporting a facelift and new interior trim designed for the European market, the company expects this multi-purpose vehcle model to be a valuable addition to its lineup.

PAJERO SPORT

The company is to introduce the PAJERO SPORT, sold as the CHALLENGER in Japan and MOTERO SPORT in North America, in the European SUV market.

Other exhibits

Bringing the total number of exhibits on display on the Mitsubishi Motors stands up to 22 will be recreation vehicle and passenger car segment models, cut-away GDI engine and other technology exhibits, and motor sports models.

Press briefing

Company president Katsuhiko Kawasoe will give a press briefing on Press Day, Tuesday 29 Setember, in which he will announce details about the launch of the SPACE STAR, SPACE WAON and PAJERO SPORT, and talk about future plans for the GDI engine in Europe.
