Tokyo, May 27, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced sales for
the fiscal year that ended 31 March 1999 of 2,333,971 million yen, a
decrease of 6.7% on the 2,500,614 million yen of the previous fiscal
year. Ordinary profit was 5,231 million yen, and net profit was 22,138
million yen. Domestic sales of passenger cars, trucks and buses in fiscal
1998 were 615,589 units, compared with 606,049 units for fiscal 1997.
Vehicle export shipments were 571,961 units, compared with 601,146 units.
Total sales and exports in the 1998 fiscal year were 1,187,550 units,
compared with 1,207,195 units for the previous fiscal year.
For the 1999 fiscal year (1 April 1999 - 31 March 2000), Mitsubishi Motors forecasts an ordinary profit of 20 billion yen and net profit of 6 billion yen on sales of 2,200 billion yen. For the first half of the 1999 fiscal year (1 April 1999 - 30 September 1999), the company forecasts an ordinary loss of 24 billion yen and net loss of 28 billion yen on sales of 1,000 billion yen.
