23 March, Tokyo: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's sales company in Indonesia,
P.T. Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors (KTB, head offices in Jakarta),
launched the KUDA*1 new-concept multi-purpose vehicle on
the Indonesia market on 22 March.
Mitsubishi Motors developed the Dynamic Family Wagon (DFW) strategic model for Asian, ASEAN block markets and other markets as well. Having a semi-bonnet configuration, the DFW offers passenger car levels of comfort and performance. The DFW made its sales debut in Taiwan as the FREECA in September 1997, and was later introduced in the Philippines as the ADVENTURE in January 1998.
The third DFW model, the KUDA shares the series concept: A vehicle with a distinct recreational flavor that is ideally suited to both private and commercial use. It offers passenger car levels of road performance, ease of entry and egress, advanced styling, as well as outstanding levels of safety and space utility. Product development was shared between Taiwan, the Philippines and Indonesia, and parts complementation has realized major cost savings.
KUDA is powered by a new 1600cc engine and is offered in GLX, GLS and Super Exceed trim levels at prices ranging between INR92 million and INR110 million.
The Indonesian automobile market is taking longer to recover than other Asian and ASEAN markets, and has shrunk in size by between 80 and 90 percent of total demand before the economic crisis of 1997. However, the large population, vast national territory, and the wealth of primary industrial goods made in Indonesia makes the automobile an indispensable means of transportation for both people and goods. The KUDA concept matches these market needs perfectly.
Marketing plans call for sales of 2,500 units in 1999.
