4 February 2000, Tokyo. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announces that
its engine and transmission manufacturing arm in the Philippines, Asian
Transmission Corporation, earned ISO 9002 Quality Management System
certification from the Philippine branch of AJA EQS(*1) on 17 December
last year, and was presented with the certificate at a ceremony held
at ATC on 11 January this year.
Amid the economic crisis that has embroiled the South East Asia region,
ATC has made concerted efforts to consolidate and strengthen its management
base. The efforts of everyone at ATC to improve quality management were
rewarded on 29 November last year when AJA EQS completed its audit and
formally decided to issue ISO 9002 certification for the ATC factory.
Under the 1994 ISO 9002 standard, certification covers "Assembly of
transmissions, engines and axles, and manufacture of their components".
Mitsubishi Motors' production and sales affiliate in the Philippines,
MMPC(*2), earned ISO 9002 certification last year. Both MMPC and ATC
expect to receive ISO 14001 Environmental Management system certification
later this year.
Mitsubishi Motors has earned ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 certification for
all of its production facilities in Japan (Nagoya, Kyoto, Mizushima
and Tokyo), as well as for affiliate Pajero Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
The company believes ISO certification of its facilities in Japan and
overseas testifies to the fact that it is establishing the kind of work
environment that befits its status as a global-scale enterprise.
