CYPRESS, Calif. (May 2, 2000) - Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America,
Inc. (MMSA) reported its best-ever sales for April and the first four
months of 2000. Led by its Galant mid-sized sedan and Montero Sport
mid-size SUV, Mitsubishi also saw increased consumer traffic brought
in by two all-new 2001 vehicles - the Eclipse Spyder convertible and
Montero luxury SUV.
Some figures of note for MMSA's April 2000 sales:
- April sales of 24,423 units is a 49.2% rise from April 1999's 16,370
vehicles
- 2000 year-to-date sales of 94,853 vehicles represents a 34.4% increase
from April 1999's year-to-date sales of 70,561 units
- Montero Sport had its best April ever with 6,169 units sold, up
53% from April 1999
- 5,742 Galant mid-size sedans were sold in April, up 39.8% from
last year
- Eclipse Spyder had its best-ever April sales of 1,315 units, boosted
by the all-new 2001 model introduced in February
- Montero luxury SUV sales rose 301.4%, powered by an all-new 2001
model and the launch of the vehicle's largest-ever advertising campaign
"With year-to-date sales of nearly 95,000 vehicles, we are having
our best year ever," said Pierre Gagnon, MMSA executive vice president
and chief operating officer. "Our line-up is also the best-ever - Galant,
Montero Sport and Eclipse continue to break sales records, and exceptional
consumer demand for the all-new 2001 Eclipse Spyder and Montero has
added incremental sales volume to the Mitsubishi Motors brand."
