Mitsubishi Motors extends its sincere apologies to every customer for
all the troubles caused by the recall reporting announced today.
We are currently studying all models sold overseas to clarify how this
recall will affect such vehicles. As soon as we clarify the details, Mitsubishi
Motors will immediately notify and implement, necessary improvement measures
to meet the regulations and conditions set out in the relevant countries.
Below is a brief explanation of the events that occurred.
[Background]
The Japanese Ministry of Transport conducted on-the-spot inspections
at the company's head office in Tamachi, Tokyo and at its Car Research
& Development Center in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture on July 5 and 6.
The inspections were made after the Ministry of Transport had been informed
that the company had omitted certain information relating to recalls in
reports submitted to the Ministry.
After conducting an internal investigation into the matter, the company
has determined that there have been cases where such information had been
omitted. The company has also looked into the nature of the omitted information.
As a result of these investigations, on July 18 the company submitted
to the Ministry of Transport a list of measures it will take to improve
its recall reporting procedure. On July 17, the company set up a Quality
Issue Investigatory committee and is in the process of investigating the
nature of the omissions and the reasons why they occurred.
We again express our sincere apologies for all the inconvenience and
trouble caused by the recall.
