Official Statement regarding the recall and improvement

July 27, 2000

Mitsubishi Motors extends its sincere apology for all the trouble MMC has caused its customers, the Ministry of Transport and all other concerned parties as a result of quality-related problems in the company's products.

The company has submitted to the Ministry of Transport a report in the required form giving notification that the company will be issuing nine recalls, two improvement measures, and three service campaigns in connection with MMC passenger cars and Fuso trucks.

As to our immediate response to the situation, our foremost priority should be to do everything we can for customers using MMC products covered by the recalls.

The recall submitted yesterday only affects MMC products sold in Japan. But we are currently investigating how such problems affect MMC product sold overseas. As soon as we clarify the details, we will immediately notify and implement, necessary improvement measures to meet the regulations and conditions set out in the relevant countries.

We have set up an internal investigation committee and it has already started a through investigation of everything relating to this matter, reaching back into the past and right up to the present. We are determined to get to the heart of the matter and bring everything to light.

We will speed up the internal investigation and implement all steps and measures deemed necessary in the light of the facts and of our determination to reform.
