Mitsubishi Motors and DaimlerChrysler strengthen ties in South Africa In car and light commercial vehicle sectors

Tokyo, 23 October 2000 : Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, DaimlerChrysler South Africa (DCSA) and Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) have agreed on the transfer of production and sales operations relating to MMC passenger cars and light commercial vehicles from FMCSA to DCSA starting 1 April 2001.

As a result, all operations relating to the production and sales of MMC passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in South Africa will now be concentrated at DCSA.

Until this agreement, DCSA has produced and sold the Mitsubishi L200 1-ton pickup ("Colt" in South Africa, "Strada" in Japan), while FMCSA has produced and sold the Mitsubishi L300 minivan ("Delica" in Japan) and sold the Mitsubishi Pajero and Pajero iO models in South Africa.

MMC and DaimlerChrysler have recently forged a comprehensive equity-based strategic alliance in the passenger car and light commercial vehicle sectors. This latest agreement will further strengthen the cooperative ties between the two companies in South Africa.
