MMC president's comment
on
Metropolitan Police inspection of MMC headquarters and other offices

August 28, 2000

On 22 August, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation published the findings of an internal investigation into the series of quality-related problems associated with MMC products and details of the measures the company intends to take to improve quality levels. Following this, MMC offices were searched on August 27 by the Metropolitan Police Department on the suspicion that the company had violated the Road Vehicles Law.

As company president, I must again express my deepest apologies for all the worry and trouble this matter has caused our customers and other parties concerned.

MMC will cooperate fully with the Police in their investigation.

I shall personally assume full responsibility for doing everything necessary to regain the trust and confidence of customers and all who have dealings with the company. To this end, together with my management team I will, at the earliest possible time, devise a set of measures to rectify the situation and to prevent any recurrence, as well as taking strict disciplinary action within the company.

Katsuhiko Kawasoe
President & Representative Director
