| On Wednesday, 4 October the 1,000,000th 'NedCar car' was produced at Netherlands
Car B.V. in Born. Reason indeed for a small celebration, because it represents
a new milestone - and it certainly won't be the last.
New milestone
Since the commissioning of the factory in 1967, more than three million
cars have come off the production line. In 1991, NedCar was established
as a joint venture between Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Volvo Car Corporation
and the Dutch State. NedCar then started to produce cars for its two industrial
shareholders. Since the start of the joint venture exactly 1,000,000 cars
have been produced of the models Mitsubishi Carisma, Mitsubishi Space
Star, Volvo S40 and Volvo V40.
A treat for everyone
In the presence of a large audience of employees and representatives of
the press, NedCar President Chris Dewulf presented the keys of the 1,000,000th
NedCar product to its new owner. Furthermore, to mark this memorable occasion
all the employees were treated to Limburg flan by the present shareholders.
NedCar's flagships
President Dewulf: 'I am proud to be able to stand here before so many
people. I am even prouder of the reason why I am standing here. Here before
you, you can see our three flagship models, including the 1,000,000th,
the Mitsubishi Space Star. These models have smoothed the way for the
new NedCar. And when we start with their successors in future years, I
hope to be standing here again on many similar occasions. I not only hope
it, I know it for certain!'

Note for editors. The Volvo S40/V40 and Mitsubishi Carisma will remain
in production until 2004. After this date they will be succeeded by a
new generation of cars for DaimlerChrysler and Mitsubishi alongside the
Space Star, which will continue in production.
