| CYPRESS, Calif. (October 3, 2000) - Mitsubishi
Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA) today reported best September sales
ever, reaching 26,007 vehicles, up 18.2% over September 1999. This month
also marked the close of the best third quarter in MMSA's 18-year history
with 83,552 vehicles sold.
Calendar-year-to-date sales for 2000 reached 240,116 vehicles, 32.4%
over the same period in 1999.
SUVs continue to lead the company's sales growth, with 1,778 all-new
2001 Monteros sold, up 290.8%, and 4,998 Montero Sports sold, up 25.5%
compared to September last year.
"Despite signs of an overall softening in the market, our fresh product
line and increasing brand awareness continue to drive strong sales growth,"
said Pierre Gagnon, MMSA executive vice president and chief operating
officer.
Product sales numbers of note:
- Best-ever September for Montero, with 1,778 units sold, up 290.8%
over September 1999
- Best-ever September for Montero Sport, with 4,998 units sold, up
25.5% over September 1999
- Best-ever September for Galant, with 7,739 units sold, up 4.6%
over September 1999.
- Best-ever September for Eclipse Spyder, with 1,710 units sold,
up 356.0% over September 1999.
- Best-ever September for Mirage Sedan, with 3,630 units sold, up
48.3% over September 1999.
