Mitsubishi Motors Steps Up Cross-Functional Work at Okazaki Plant

Tokyo, December 13, 2002 -Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) today announced that it is investing 2 billion yen in a new office building to be completed in April next year at its Okazaki plant.

"This move will help increase the cross-functional working relationships of R&D, production, purchasing, and quality assurance," said Rolf Eckrodt, MMC president and CEO. Each of these departments will be able to work together closely on projects from the initial stages of development to increase efficiency and improve overall quality.

Other benefits of the move to a single building include standardizing global production know-how and saving more time through process optimization. By using the latest information technologies, the building will also be well equipped to deal with crises such as earthquakes.

When finished, the five-story, 2,270m2 building will house some 700 employees currently working at other factories around Japan. MMC expects the move will be finished by August next year.
