N.B. Figures exclude truck and bus units as MMC's truck and bus operations were spun off into Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation in January 2003.

Global production in October totaled 136,792 units, down 7.3 percent from a year earlier. Domestic production was off 1.6 percent on year to 65,592 units, marking the first decline in two months. Production of commercial vehicles for the month, however, nearly doubled on year to 11,112 as the company saw strong sales of its Minicab Truck and Minicab Van.

Total offshore production, meanwhile, declined 12 percent to 71,200 units. Asia excluding Japan dropped 15.4 percent to 41,675 units, while Europe declined 16.8 percent to 6,887 units. Despite the drop in European production, sales in the region continue to post strong results, surging 14.2 percent on October last year for the fifth straight monthly gain.

North American production climbed 7.5 percent to 17,834 units, marking the first gain in seven months. The Endeavor crossover SUV, which launched in March this year as the first vehicle in the companys Project America series, continued gathering momentum by posting its highest monthly results in terms of both sales and production.

Total domestic sales declined 3.6 percent for the month to 21,878 units. Passenger car registrations, however, continue to enjoy robust growth surging 50.8 percent for the eleventh straight monthly gain. MMCs share of the domestic market remained relatively stable at 4.8 percent, down a mere 0.3 percentage points on October last year.

Total domestic sales from April to October stood at 192,152 units, an increase of 3.4 percent over the same period last year.

Exports from Japan totaled 28,951 units, down 23 percent from the same month last year. By area, exports to Asia totaled 3,831 units, North America 10,402 units, and Europe 3,401 units. As a result of the spin-off of MMCs truck and bus operations in January 2003, regional year-on-year comparisons are not available due to a change in the system used to tally exports.
