- Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) today announced that orders for its eK Series of minicars - eK Wagon, eK Sport, and eK Classy - reached 300,018 units on February 10, 2004. The 300,000 unit mark was reached in twenty-eight months: eK Wagon went on sale in October 2001, eK Sport in September 2002, and eK Classy in May 2003.
The eK Series achieved accumulated sales of 294,620 units by the end of January this year, giving it average monthly sales for the twenty-eight month period of over 10,000 units.
This reconfirms the minicar lineup's status as a long selling hit for MMC and cements its position as a staple of the highly competitive minicar segment in Japan. The eK Series joins the Colt compact car and Grandis minivan - launched in November 2002 and May 2003, respectively - at the forefront of MMC's product lineup.
To help support sales, MMC is working to build a domestic sales network that offers greater quality in terms of service and customer satisfaction. As part of the ongoing reforms, the company is also refurbishing its dealer outlets designed around new corporate identity guidelines.
