Mitsubishi Motors Debuts New Concept at Geneva, Revs Up European Product Offensive

CZ2 Cabriolet

Outlander
Tokyo, March 4, 2003 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) today launched into the 2003 spring/summer season with style, holding the world premiere of its CZ2 Cabriolet concept at the press day of the 2003 Geneva Auto Show.

Heir of MMC's first show car-the 1962 Colt 600 Convertible-CZ2 Cabriolet is a proposal for a casual, chic open-top runabout. It is also the latest New Compact Car inspired concept, a line inaugurated last year by MMC with the acclaimed CZ2 hatchback and CZ3 Tarmac sports wagon and continued this year with the Tarmac Spyder also on display at Geneva.

But this year's show is not only about concept cars. MMC is upping the ante on the production car front with the European unveiling of its successful Outlander crossover, set for launch in most European markets in the second quarter of 2003. The Outlander has proved to be a popular addition to MMC's lineup in North America, selling over 15,000 units since its launch there in October last year.

"The turnaround of our European operations is well and truly on track. At last year's Geneva Auto Show we promised to stabilize our business in Europe. We achieved that in 2002," said MMC President and CEO Rolf Eckrodt, speaking at the press day.

"Today, we witness the next phase in the evolution of Mitsubishi Motors in Europe with the unveiling of the first of fourteen new cars currently in the pipeline for the next five years," Eckrodt added.
