Tokyo, 25 October 2004
— Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced that an improved Colt compact car series went on sale at affiliated dealerships throughout Japan today. Since its introduction in 2002, Colt has won popular acclaim for its drivability, compact dimensions and classy design. The latest Colt series introduced today features revamped exterior and interior designs and is powered by a lineup of three new engines. Tax inclusive prices start at 1,106,700 yen.
The Colt was the first model developed by Mitsubishi Motors using Quality Gate principles to provide stringent quality testing and verification at all stages in the development and production processes. Since its market introduction in November 2002, it has won high critical acclaim for its classy looks and overall quality levels as well as for its vehicular performance. The latest series introduced today features a front and rear facelift with other changes to exterior and interior trim and is powered by new 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter aluminum cylinder block engines manufactured by MDC Power GmbH of Germany. The Ralliart performance model that joins the latest series is powered by a new 1.5-liter intercooler-turbocharged engine.
Also joining the latest Colt series are the attractively priced Limited Edition and Limited Navi Edition that come standard with CD-player audio and DVD on-board navigation systems respectively. 2WD and 4WD versions of these specials come with price tags of 1,197,000 yen and 1,386,000 yen for Limited Edition and 1,299,900 yen and 1,488,900 yen for Limited Navi Edition respectively.
1. Significant changes and improvements
(1) Engine / transmission / environmental performance
- With the exception of Ralliart, two new engines manufactured at MDC Power in Germany are used to power all models in the latest Colt series. The 4A90-type 1.3-liter MIVEC1 aluminum cylinder block engine generates 68kW (92PS)/6000rpm and 124N-m (12.6kg-m)/4000rpm (2WD models). The 4A91-type 1.5-liter MIVEC aluminum cylinder block engine generates 77kW (105PS)/6000rpm and 141N-m (14.4kg-m)/4000rpm (2WD models). Mated to Mitsubishi's INVECS-III continuously variable transmission (CVT), these engines return mileage of 20.5 km/l and 18.2 km/l respectively (2WD models) in Japan's 10-15 mode driving cycle. The 4A90 and 4A91 engines are mounted with the exhaust manifold facing rearwards. This helps reduce emissions to earn 2WD Colt models a 4-star rating for emission levels that are 75% lower than Japan's 2005 standards.
- The Ralliart performance model is powered by a new 4G15-type 1.5-liter MIVEC intercooler-turbocharged engine that develops 108kW (147PS)/6000rpm and 180N-m (18.3kg-m)/2500rpm. Mated to the INVECS-III Sport Mode 6-CVT, the Ralliart powertrain returns mileage of 15.6 km/l in Japan's 10-15 mode driving cycle. The use of a stainless steel exhaust manifold, with its lower thermal capacity, and a front catalytic converter contribute to a 3-star rating for emission levels that are 50% lower than the 2005 standards.

(2) Exterior
- Remodeled front and rear bumpers give Colt a more dynamic appearance while a new grille with plated-finish top and bottom edges further enhances its classy front visage.
- At the rear, the bottom edge of the tailgate glass has been redesigned to give the 3-diamond Mitsubishi logo greater prominence.
- A new rear combination lamp assembly positions the tail lamp higher up to make Colt more visible at night.
- The Ralliart performance model is fitted with hi-intensity discharge headlamps as standard. Styling elements that underline Ralliart's sporty and refined performance characteristics include an exclusive front grille, 15-inch alloy road wheels and hi-performance tires, oversize roof spoiler and exclusive muffler cap.
(3) Interior
- Elegance-X and Sport-X models use hi-contrast instrumentation with white illumination.
- Front seats on all models are fitted with larger head restraints for improved occupant safety.
- Ralliart uses a floor-mounted shifter to operate the INVECS-III Sport Mode 6-CVT. The blue-black two-tone Ralliart interior scheme and hi-contrast instrumentation with red illumination complement the sporty nature of this model.
- Available as a factory-fitted option at a pocket-friendly price is the Mitsubishi Multi Entertainment System (MMES) that combines in-car entertainment and on-board navigation functions in a neat 2DIN size unit.
(4) Road performance
- Emblematic of Mitsubishi Motors' defining sports-minded DNA, the Colt Ralliart model comes with front strut tower bar that increase body stiffness and with 15-inch ventilated disc front and 14-inch disc rear brakes as standard. Together with model-specific suspension tuning and electric power-assist steering that raise handling and stability levels, Ralliart boasts a chassis and running gear specification that comfortably matches the greater power output of its intercooler-turbocharger engine. The result is truly satisfying driving pleasure.
2. Limited Edition and Limited Navi Edition specials

- Derived from the 1.3-liter Casual trim level, the Limited Edition offers at very accessible prices a standard specification that includes a CD-player audio system, auto-control air conditioning with deodorizing air filter, auto headlight ON/OFF control and deodorant rooflining.
(2) Limited Navi Edition
