Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announces that AIRTREK*1 , a new-generation crossover recreation vehicle, will
go on sale at Galant and Car Plaza dealerships throughout Japan on Wednesday June 20th. Powered by 2.4-liter GDI or 2.0-liter ECI-Multi engines
driving either front or all four wheels, AIRTREK is the first new model to be launched under the MMC Turnaround.
*1 Coined from Air and Trek to express the idea of footloose, adventure-filled motoring
pleasure.
Developed to a "creating flexible space and all-round performance" concept, Airtrek is distinguished by the following features:
- "Flexible interior space" that guarantees roomy and relaxing comfort whether driving around town or out and about on longer journeys;
- All-round driving performance that brings strain-free motoring pleasure on- and off-road;
- Innovative styling that visually projects the flexible space and all-round performance of the new model.
This concept has created a new-generation crossover RV that sports levels of all-round performance surpassing that of any RV on the road today.
Airtrek lays claim to a unique position in its category as it brings together the friendly driveability and peppy around-town performance offered
by minivans and station wagons, and the go-anywhere off-road performance potential of a SUV.

I Product features
[ Packaging & all-round performance comfortably meet diverse needs ]
- Packaging
- 2625mm wheelbase: Realizes living space dimensions that allow full-grown occupants to ride in relaxed comfort.
- 16-inch wheels & 195mm ground clearance: Give Airtrek go-anywhere off-road performance.
- Front seat height: At 600mm, facilitates contortion-free ingress and egress; high eye point provides excellent all-round visibility
- Overall height: At 1550mm, provides generous interior headroom while still enabling access to tower parking common in Japanese towns and
cities.
- Overall length: At 4410mm, the very maneuverable body provides a generously long and versatile interior, accommodates a 2.4-liter engine,
and provides impact energy-absorbing space in the event of a crash.
- Overall width: At 1750mm, contributes to low center of gravity and wide-track proportions for outstanding handling stability and low-roll
ride.
- Utility
- Walkthru: Creating a practical and easy-to-use walkthru between the front seats, the shift lever is located at the bottom of the dash
center panel, while the standalone floor console stands at the same height as the front seat squab cushion.
- Luggage mover: Airtrek uses a 60/40 split-folding rear seat with central armrest. Folding the seat forward produces a cavernous
easy-to-use luggage space with stepless floor. The highly versatile seating arrangement also accommodates items up to 2400mm long when the
front passenger seatback is reclined.
- Engine, transmission, suspension
- Choice of two engines: The power-to-spare 2.4-liter GDI unit (models powered by this engine are designated Transitional Low Emission
Vehicles under Japanese law); or the 2.0-liter ECI-Multi unit for the more economy-minded driver (models powered by this engine are
designated Low Emission Vehicles)
- Smart transmission: Both engines are mated to Mitsubishi's INVECS II*2 Sport Mode 4-speed "manutronic"
transmission that offers the enthusiast driver the ability to override the automatic and shift through the gears using a manual gate.
- *2 Intelligent & Innovative Vehicle Electronic Control System II
- Winning traction: 4WD Airtrek models use the VCU-fitted center differential system that has given Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution series its
invincible traction performance and delivers well-behaved traction on all surfaces.
- Confidence inspiring suspension: Airtrek uses the McPherson strut front / multi-link rear arrangements that have proved so popular on the
Lancer Cedia and other Mitsubishi models to deliver superior handling stability and ride.
- Safety
- RISE body: All Airtrek models use Mitsubishi's RISE*3 body that provides outstanding crashworthiness,
complying with, among others, JNCAP 55km/h requirements for full-front and European 64 km/h deformable barrier requirements for
offset-front impacts.
- *3 Realized Impact Safety Evolution
- Pretensioners & force limiters: Airtrek models are fitted as standard with front seat belt pretensioners that take up slack in the webbing
and thereby restrict wearer movement in a crash. The front seat belts are also fitted with a force limiter that buckles to absorb excessive
impact energy transmitted through the belt and mitigate the force acting on the wearer.
- ABS with EBD*4 : All Airtrek models are fitted with Mitsubishi's 3-channel 4-sensor anti-lock braking
system, which also incorporates electronic brake force distribution.
- *4 Electronic Brake pressure Distribution
[ Innovative styling melds cosmopolitan refinement with 4WD looks ]
- Exterior
- The exterior styling melds a classy and sporty upper body with a squat, powerful looking lower body in a tasteful and well-balanced
design.
- Forging the distinctive asymmetric double headlights and the integrally molded bumper-nose section into a tidy and cohesive mask, the
front end projects an attractive new-generation appearance.
- In profile, the oversize wheels and the wheel arch flares articulate Airtrek's macho qualities, while the clean, taut surface treatment
and the clear-cut highlight lines stamp its youthful nature on its silhouette.
- In the rear view, the understated tailgate notch and the stylish tail lamp design signal Airtrek's sporty and classy pedigree.
- Interior
- Round air vents and the analogue clock (on models not fitted with LED display) in the defining T-shape dash, and a twin-dial "spectacle"
layout in the instrument cluster contribute to a new-taste sporty front compartment design.
- A choice of two vibrant interior color schemes is offered as standard (not available on 20E trim level). While sharing the same two-tone
gray dash color, the two schemes are coordinated using differing dash garnish panel and seat trim colors. The Casual scheme features
terracotta orange accents in the panels, seats and door trim to bring out a more dynamic image. The Gentle scheme coordinates sporty black
wood-grain panels with two-tone gray seat upholstery to generate a more elegant, sportier image.
- Optionally available is the Luxury trim package that uses light-brown wood-finish paneling and real leather/punched-suede seat upholstery
to fashion a chic and classy interior.
- Other equipment & appointments
- Standard on 24V-S and available on the 20V trim levels are a front sunroof and a rear glass roof panel that enhance the bright and airy
qualities of the occupant compartment.
- A rich optional equipment specification is available including: DVD-MMCS (Mitsubishi Multi-Communications System supporting DVD
navigation), and the Multi Display Station that presents the driver with vehicle status and other pertinent information. Both systems use a
highly legible in-dash 7-inch widescreen display.
- All models except the 20E are fitted with Mitsubishi's Security Alarm system that sounds the horn and activates the hazard lights when an
attempt is made to improperly open the doors, the engine hood or tailgate
