22 December, Tokyo: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announces it is to
begin sales of its new PISTACHIO*2 model in a limited series
to local authorities and public corporations on 22 December. PISTACHIO
is powered by the GDI-ASG*3 component system - the first
in the GDI SIGMA series - that marries the 4A31-type 1100cc in-line
4-cylinder GDI*4 engine, the smallest of its type in the
world, with Mitsubishi's advanced Automatic Stop & Go (ASG) technology.
The low-cost, low-consumption GDI-ASG powertrain exploits to the full
the superior characteristics of the GDI engine and realizes a dramatic
improvement in fuel consumption. Powered by this system, the new PISTACHIO
becomes the first gasoline-fuelled liter-car to return 30 km/L in the
Japanese 10-15 mode urban driving pattern. Complying with Japan's New
2010 Fuel Economy Standards, PISTACHIO is a very environment-friendly
car.
The company has decided to produce a limited series of 50 PISTACHIO's
in a pilot sales program to local authorities and public corporations
that are working to protect the environment.

1. GDI-ASG PISTACHIO product features
- Powered by the GDI-ASG module of Mitsubishi's low-consumption GDI
SIGMA Series powertrain, which marries the 4A31-type 1100cc in-line
4-cylinder GDI engine with Mitsubishi's advanced Automatic Stop &
Go (ASG) technology.
- Operation is simplicity itself. All the driver has to do to restart
the engine after the ASG system has operated to stop it at idling
(the vehicle must be at rest, the shift lever in neutral and the clutch
engaged) is to disengage the clutch by pressing the clutch pedal.
The lack of any complicated restarting procedure, and the very fast
engine restart-a fraction of the time required with a conventional
engine-eliminates worries about increases in emissions or about holding
up other vehicles in traffic due to being slow to move off again.
